Fethiye
Asfiye is based in Fethiye, a city of 45,000 sitting in
a rich agricultural valley ringed by the southern spurs
of the Toros mountains that rise up to 6000 feet. A well
protected harbor curves in a crescent along the city’s
seafront. The quayside is fronted with shady tea gardens
and just across the street from the quay is the old
town’s shopping district. Near to the center,
a lively day market is held every
Tuesday.
Fethiye’s history is as old as the
Trojan War: in legend the city was founded by Telmessos,
the son of Apollo and the daughter of Antenor. A Roman
theater sits just at the harbor, a Byzantine castle
presides over the city from a hilltop and on the cliff
faces surrounding the city there are Lycian rock-cuttombs
of temple form.
Fethiye is an ideal spot to begin
your voyage due to its central location along the Lycian
coast. You will likely arrive at Dalaman airport where
you will be met by our private transfer agent and
brought the short 31 mile distance to Fethiye. If you
are embarking immediately, Asfiye will be waiting for
you; fully provisioned according to your personal
requests. You will be welcomed by our on site agent,
taken to the yacht and introduced to the crew. We will
assist you with settling in and once you are ready,
we’ll review your itinerary and with a champagne toast
send you out on the first afternoon of your adventure.
