Kaş
and Aperlae
East of Kalkan is the larger town of Kaş.
There are old Ottoman houses now converted into shops and
restaurants. The town is well known for a pedestal style
sarcophagus standing in the middle of the avenue leading
down to the harbor. Other ruins include a Hellenistic
theater, an agora and rock cut tombs in the cliff face above
the town. |

Further east lies an area of great
archeological and scenic interest:
we
first reach Aperlae, a fortified city accessible only by
boat or on foot. This is a wonderful site and due to its
remote location you are likely to be the only visitors. An
earthquake sheared the edge of the city below the inlet and
you can swim over sunken streets and houses as you make your
way to shore.
