Life Aboard
"We are on the boat and it is so
much more than I anticipated that I find it difficult to
describe:
I awakened to the rapid tap sound of chef’s knife
preparing breakfast. We are anchored in a small cove on
the Göcek peninsula. The water is the color of lapis and
turquoise. As we are on the leeward side of the
surrounding hills, the water is quite calm and sea and
shore converse in a gentle tempo. I imagine it to be a
conversation between the Nereid of the cove and the
Dryad of the shore.
Large grey boulders meet the shore and only a few
feet up, pine trees begin. The land rises quite steeply
to a 100-foot elevation after which it continues upward
another 200 feet in a sheer cliff face. Birds and
cicadas add their songs to that of the water and shore."
So began a traveler’s description of his first
morning of his first Blue Voyage. Time passes
effortlessly as Asfiye glides from one activity and
location to the next. Breakfast, a morning swim and then
weigh anchor and relax, watching the passing scenery
until lunch in another cove with water so incredibly
clear that the boat seems suspended in mid air. After
lunch, perhaps you might enjoy a swim and a stroll in
the forest onshore. If you like, we’ll change your
locale for tea time. Later in the evening you will look
forward to a fine dinner and conversation or other
pursuits under the bright canopy of stars. Go ashore to
any of the towns along our routes and you will be
confronted with a feast for the senses; ruins of Greek,
Roman and Byzantine cities and towns with old Ottoman
houses fronting the streets. Shop in an open air market,
wander the back streets of a seaside village or watch
the sun set over a Roman temple; the sights are as
varied as the coastline and our experienced crew will
show you its many secrets. |
